Saving Ourselves Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to creating a future where women and children can live free from violence and fear. Through community-led initiatives and robust community outreach, we mobilize communities, elevate survivor voices, and promote education, advocacy, and bold policy reform. Our mission is to end abuse and exploitation, hold systems accountable, and transform harmful structures. We also emphasize the importance of ai ethics and digital safety while advancing restorative justice that fosters healing, dignity, and lasting pathways to safety, justice, and survivor support.
Survivor Leadership & Dignity We believe those most impacted lead the way. We honor lived experience as expertise and center autonomy, consent, and respect in all work, particularly in the context of ai ethics and digital safety. Community Power We believe that lasting change is built with communities, not for them. We invest in community-led initiatives, local leadership, collective action, and culturally responsive solutions through community outreach. Justice & Accountability We confront harm at both individual and systemic levels, demanding responsibility, transparency, and structural reform. Healing & Restoration We believe that safety includes emotional, cultural, and generational healing. We advance restorative practices that repair harm and rebuild trust, emphasizing survivor support. Equity & Courage We challenge oppression and racism in all forms and act boldly to dismantle the conditions that allow violence to persist. Anti-racist, Anti-Oppressive & Intersectional We are unapologetically antiracist and anti-oppressive, centering the leadership of those most marginalized by interlocking systems of oppression and refusing to address gender-based violence without dismantling the interconnected forces of oppression that shape who is harmed, who is believed, and who can heal.

Saving Ourselves Foundation, Inc. was founded in the state of Maryland by Christian F. Nunes, MBA, MS, LCSW-C, LCSW, a seasoned strategist and internationally recognized speaker. With over 20 years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker, she is a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist and an expert in mental health, gender equity, and digital safety, including crucial topics like AI ethics and digital safety. Her insights have shaped national conversations on platforms such as CNN, Forbes, The New York Times, The Guardian, and The Washington Post. As National President of the National Organization for Women (NOW) from 2020-2025, Christian made history as only the second African American woman to hold this role in the organization's 60-year legacy. Under her leadership, NOW experienced profound transformation, anchored in intersectional feminism and anti-racist practices. This included restructuring its systems and governance to center racial justice and intersectionality, thereby mobilizing a new, diverse generation of feminist leaders and amplifying marginalized voices within the movement. Christian's expertise spans evidence-based clinical practice, policy advocacy, DEIJ, and organizational transformation, with a strong focus on community-led initiatives. She is the author of the children's book No Hug Today, which centers on consent education and bodily autonomy, and is a sought-after leader who integrates social work, research, and social justice frameworks throughout her work. Currently pursuing her Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) at Simmons University, Christian continues to advance scholarship on trauma-informed practice and systemic change, particularly in the realm of survivor support. As the Founder and CEO of Equity Bound Solutions LLC, she has guided organizations through equity-centered transformations while emphasizing psychological safety. Her vision for the Saving Ourselves Foundation is rooted in a fundamental truth: communities already possess the skills, knowledge, and power needed to create lasting change. What they need is to center survivors, ensuring they receive the equity, access, and safety they deserve.

The book was included in the April 22, 2018, New York Times book review under the title, “Trailblazers in Politics and Civil Rights.” It was also featured in the Harvard Authors’ Bookshelf, the Columbia Authors’ Bookshelf, and The New School Authors’ Bookshelf. It was also nominated in the best historical documentary category at the National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences Awards held in Boston. Ford has presented his work in various venues, in addition to others: the Association For The Study Of African American Life And History Convention film festival in Jacksonville, Florida, PBS, and Black Entertainment Television, as well as at historical societies, the Atlanta Center For Civil Rights And Human Rights, Philadelphia Civil Rights Museum, Harvard Club, Columbia, and other colleges, universities, high schools, theaters, churches, and national conferences, including the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Annual Meeting, the New York State Bar Association Annual Meeting, the National Bar Association Annual Meeting, and the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Selma to Montgomery March.
